Garlik, a UK-based online identity expert, has secured €1.8 million in Series C funding from existing backers 3i and Doughty Hanson Technology Ventures. The company’s management and existing angel backers also contributed to the round.
Garlik has developed a commercial application of semantic technology, enabling web users to find and understand what personal information is in the public domain about them. The service also allows them to manage the way their identities appear online. With cybercrime soaring and thousands of credit card, financial and login details being sold illegally, Garlik is experiencing significant interest in its solutions. It has shown revenue growth of more than 300% per year.
“The recession is fueling a worldwide explosion in cybercrime,” added Tom Ilube, CEO of Garlik, in a statement. “This new round of funding means that we can rapidly expand our relationships with leading banks, insurance companies, Internet service providers and online retailers worldwide.”
3i and Doughty Hanson have already backed the company on three different occasions: a €4.4 million investment in April 2006, an €8.8 million round in April 2007 and, together with Noble Fund Managers, a €3.2 million round in May 2008.
