Good news for the Portuguese Entrepreneurial Ecosystem
In the week of the 14th anniversary of the first Portuguese Business Angels Club, which can be remembered through the work of the journalist Alexandra Noronha for the “Valor” magazine (text in portuguese), the National Entrepreneurial Ecosystem receives an important stimulus which in itself is invaluable.
The evolution that this Ecosystem has been experiencing has shown that transparency has undoubtedly more advantages than disadvantages, because it determines a more grounded view on all the features of the existing system as I had previously stated about the venture capital industry in Portugal. In fact, after numerous attempts to raise awareness among key government officials with influence in boosting the Entrepreneurial Ecosystem, I was quite pleased and gratified to see that the COMPETE Program Manager and his competent staff, in perfect connection with the Manager of the Co-Investment Fund for BAs, PME Investimentos, made available to the Portuguese Society in general and to entrepreneurs and investors in particular, detailed information on the activities undertaken by the Portuguese Business Angels community through the COMPETE Co-Investment Fund/Business Angels.
At a time when Business Angels have already invested € 16.3 million in 91 start-ups with less than three years, this information is of key importance for entrepreneurs who have projects properly structured and to all those who have a Business Angel profile but could never get that demonstration effect that would allow them to believe that this activity is a reality in our country.
As of now, it is possible to know which Business Angels groups are making investments and which companies benefited from those investments.
